Crane is looking for a Sr. Development Scientist - Adhesives for our Nashua, NH facility. You can be an agent of change in an agile company quick to adapt to gain the competitive edge. Although we are small and entrepreneurial, we have the support and infrastructure of an established company, as well as leadership in the industry. This position is ideal for scientists interested in developing technical solutions, and implementing a path to optimize processes and product performance. Our ideal candidate is a hands-on person, providing sound, well researched and analyzed adhesives, and the processes to manufacture within Crane and convert to customer specifications.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Development of high performance adhesive formulations and coating application processes on thin films for new and existing products.
  • Lead or contribute to complex problem solving involving complex interactive materials.
  • Conduct experimental work, analyze and interpret the results, document and report on results and take appropriate action to achieve established goals resulting in the development of new or refined adhesive formulations, application methods and lamination processes.
  • Development of laboratory tests to predict the adhesive performance in downstream processes within the paper, printing and security technology industry.
  • Collaborate with global R&D team and manufacturing engineers to optimize manufacturing process to meet new product requirements and ensure completion of all required documentation before transfer to manufacturing.
  • Identify risks and propose mitigation strategies to ensure timely completion of projects to agree upon success criteria.
  • Be an internal technical expert to Crane Currency in all areas of adhesives.
  • Stay abreast of new adhesive technologies and evolving industry trends.

 

 


 

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in materials science, polymer science or plastics engineering or a related field with 1 year substantial experience with the formulation of adhesives. Graduate degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of Eight (8) years’experience in manufacturing or R&D environment.
  • Experience in R&D, process engineering, and functional experience in coating, printing or web processing industry preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects or high contribution in critical, high visibility projects.
  • Proficient use of DOE, six sigma or following a Stage Gate process.
  • Must have strong communication skills, in written, spoken and delivery of presentations, and the ability to clearly and concisely transfer technical information cross-functionally and to the broader organization with customers, suppliers, fellow researchers, manufacturing and upper management.
  • Ability to travel about 15% of the time.
