In our business, there is no room for error in meeting customer specifications. As Quality Assurance Technician GR2 in Dalton, MA your technical expertise and keen eye for detail will be imperative in ensuring the integrity and highest quality standard of our products. This is a rotating shift position and the successful candidate will have the ability to “jump in” and contribute immediately to the organization. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Complete physical testing on material comparing Company and customer specifications.
  • Mix colors accurately following predetermined formulas.
  • Complete series of color control testing.
  • Perform shipment sample tests, advising the Finishing Department of any skids which are out of specification.
  • Audit the product throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Perform Equipment Verification Testing.

  • Maintain 5S and safety compliance as well as maintaining appropriate levels of lab supplies.
  • Perform quality testing in Raw Materials QA lab.
    • Complete process and related testing once per shift or as needed, recording test data, and advising appropriate personnel if test results indicate that the product is out of specification.
    • Perform inspection and audits of fibrous materials.
  • Conduct training of new technicians.
  • Creating customer facing reports and review against customer requirements.

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; BS/BA degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience working in quality in laboratory setting and/or performing laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to operate and calibrate lab testing equipment.
  • Ability to read, write, keep neat and accurate records, and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a cross-functional team.
  • Capability to understand and follow operating/job procedures and work in a safe manner.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, including ability to perform root cause analysis, and determine deficiencies, trends, or outliers in data.
  • Proficient in Excel, including data mining, spreadsheet creation, and data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Manufacturing Enterprise Systems (MES), including the ability to create customer-facing reports using reporting software, and review reported data against customer requirements.
  • Ability to ensure quality requirements are met. Tests include, but are not limited to, viscosity testing of raw and finished fiber, basis weight, caliper, density, opacity, mullenmullen, tensile, tears, & porosity.
  • Good mathematical aptitude.

Preferred:

  • Experience with papermaking process and/or knowledge of physical paper properties.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMSQMS) principles, such as document control, control of nonconforming product, and implementing corrective activities.
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) training and/or experience using statistical methods of data analysis.
  • Internal Auditor training/experience and/or Green Belt trained.
  • Experience using Lean or Continuous Improvement practices.
