Do you want to be a key team player with the fastest growing currency supplier in the world? Crane Currency in Dalton, MA is looking for a Watermark Technologist to join our R&D team. Drawing upon your expertise, you will be responsible for defining watermark technology road-maps, as well as evaluating internal and external technologies. You will help to design security features for our clients around the world, and develop Crane's next generation technology. This position will be U.S. based but will be a shared resource with our Swedish facility.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Create new Intellectual Property for concepts and methods to produce next generation, high definition watermarks for all paper-making processes throughout Crane.
  • Develop artistic designs using Adobe Creative Suite software, Photoshop, and other imaging software.
  • Produce embossing dies and electrotypes for mould covers to reproduce watermarks, including portraits and light elements, in paper that are realistic artistic renditions of submitted customer artwork.
  • Create and/or add functionality to the banknote or sheet through innovative watermark technology.
  • Receive internal requests for new dies across the organization globally.
  • Develop the work plan and schedule for the activities that technicians will execute to produce the watermarking tools and deliver them to meet the required deadlines.
  • Maintain training and proficiency in use of equipment.
  • Skilled in methods required to finish watermarking tools to enable optimized watermark rendition on the paper machine
  • Maintain awareness of all initiatives, inquiries and feedback from customers.
  • Foster an interactive relationship with counterparts and colleagues across Crane Currency’s four production sites and be able to confidently engage in and collaborate with key customers and their subject matter experts.
  • Assess competitive technologies for strengths, weaknesses, and competitive threats and marketing arguments.
  • Identify potential new technologies for Crane business development opportunities through invention as well as bringing existing technologies in house.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors in Arts, Science, Engineering, or Associate degree with minimum 3-5 years’ experience.
  • Demonstrated craft and artistic ability. 
  • Experience with industrial design, engraving, illustration and/or artistic experience.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer-generated image manipulation and use of computer imaging systems such as; Adobe Creative Suite software, etc.
  • Mechanical acumen to translate artistic designs into moulds and dies.
  • A high level of attention-to-detail with the ability to work on tedious tasks for extended periods of time.
  • Experience in preparing and effectively delivering formal presentations.
  • Gathers and analyzes information skillfully and maintains confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel 15-30% both domestically and internationally.

Preferred:

  • Masters in Arts, Science, Engineering.
  • 8+ years’ experience in the paper, security paper and/or banknote industry.
  • Drafting or engineering drawing experience is a plus.
  • Detailed understanding of existing watermark security features and emerging industry trends.
  • Detailed understanding of paper and watermark making techniques.
