Do you want to be a key team player with the fastest growing currency supplier in the world? Crane Currency in Dalton, MA is looking for a Paper Technologist to support our R&D team. Drawing upon your expertise, you will be the first-line, technical resource working on research and development projects. This key position will be leading cross-functional teams through project completion while using stage-gate project processes to ensure that all deliverables are met in a safe, timely and cost effective manner with an emphasis on quality. Responsibilities: 

  • Research and assist in identifying, evaluating new technologies in areas of currency paper and integration of security features in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines for deliverables.
  • Be a creative, self-starter regularly applying analytical skills and experience to efficiently conceptualize, develop and scale-up robust new processes and products.
  • Provide strong customer service response and technical support to marketing, sales, product management and other areas of the business where technical expertise is needed.
  • Coordinate development, scale-up and validation trials on new products and product modifications.

Qualifications

Knowledge (Education/Training) or equivalent:

Required:

  • BS degree in Paper Science/Technology or similar Physical / Material Science or Chemical Engineering.

Preferred:

  • Graduate or Post-Grad. PhD is a plus in Paper/Pulp Science, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Six Sigma/Lean Certification.
  • Project Management Certification.

 

Technical Experience:

Required:

  • 5 years progressive experience in R&D, Product Development, Process Engineering in the following industries; Paper/Pulp, Material Development/Process. 
  • Subject matter expert with sharp analytical, trouble-shooting skills using effective analytical tools and equipment to successfully complete projects and accomplish day-to-day work.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and/or as individual contributor as required with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lead processes like FMEA to mitigate product and process risk (Project risk)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and chemical testing procedures related to pulp and paper making.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and/or as individual contributor as required with minimum supervision.
  • Experience with process control engineering skills and latest process technologies in field of pulp and paper.
  • Proficient verbal & written communication skills with the ability to communicate and influence throughout multiple levels of the organization.
  • Experience with Stage gate process.
  • Demonstrated ability in influencing and leading others without formal authority, while maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Ability to design experiments and run trials to be efficient in the development of process and products.
  • Experience leading teams in the following area is desired, but not required: Cross Functional Teams, Six-Sigma Solving Techniques, Lean Concepts and 5S.
  • Must have prior experience effectively managing projects and project team through thoughtful facilitation and creative idea exchange. This includes managing project expenses, capital budgets and project tracking to plan.

Preferred:

  • Experience in banknote manufacturing.

 

The person selected for this position will need to demonstrate suitability for employment in a position of Public Trust consistent with our US Government contract requirements.
