The Machinist position plays a critical role setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce high precision parts and instruments in a production environment. This position will be responsible for the fabrication and modification of parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

  • Set-up, program and operate CNC Lathes and Mills to manufacture high precision parts in a low volume manufacturing environment.
  • Machine a variety of materials including but not limited to Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, Aluminum and Plastic.
  • Use Micrometers, Calipers and other measuring devices to measure and manufacture precision components.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  • Adjust parameters including speeds and feeds to fine tune the process.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing,
  • Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machinery.
  • Design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.
  • Supports the production facilities for the fabrication and maintenance requirements.


  • High school degree or equivalent required.  Degree in Machine Tool Technology or related area preferred.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship and/or formal training in an area of specialty with at least 5+ years of experience required.
  • At least 5+ years of Machining or Toolmaking experience required.
  • Understand the basics of metal working, work holding and tool clamping.
  • Must be able to use Micrometer, Calipers and other precision measuring devices to measure and adjust components to within 1 micron.
  • Able to perform all computer functions as they pertain to this job.  
  • Knowledge of design techniques, principles, tools and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Strong attention to detail.  Organized and has the ability to multi-task. 
  • Willing to work any shift and overtime as required.
