    Crane Currency is looking for a Project Engineer for our team in Dalton, MA. This position is ideal for an individual with extensive experience in dealing with projects with basic and complex systems. The successful candidate will play a pivotal leadership role in planning, design, cost estimating, budgeting, scheduling and supervision of projects assigned by the Manager of Engineering at our U.S. Government Products facility.

     

    Responsibilities include:

    • Manages projects, both capital and expense, from inception to completion.
    • Designs, plans, cost estimates, prepares/submits budgets, initiates projects, schedules and supervises equipment installations to ensure safe, efficient operation.
    • Prepares detailed layouts of machine components and detailing of individual parts. Generates and reviews detailed drawings for dimensional accuracy and manufacturability
    • Supports the process control, maintenance and production groups with troubleshooting, equipment evaluation and selection, estimates for future projects.
    • Responsible for implementation of projects from initial concept, through design, procurement, installation, training, and close out.
    • Provides support to the Manufacturing, Process Control, and Maintenance groups as needed.
    • Assures his/ her engineering decisions are consistent with established work standards, meet all applicable codes, and is performed safely with no adverse impact to the environment.
    • Coordinate scheduling of installations and construction with manufacturing supervision, maintenance supervision, suppliers, contractors and other departments.
    • Follows through with manufacturing to ensure that equipment performance meets all project requirements and expectations.
    • Support manufacturing to find the best engineering solution in order to maintain manufacturing quality, production and safety.
    • Supports Maintenance Manager/ Supervisors in project scheduling and planning and emergency type situations requiring engineering expertise.
    • Engages in continuous improvement projects as leader or participation.
    • Stays current with technologies and methods that are applicable to Crane operations.
    • Project activities include design and drafting skills utilizing AutoCad, communication throughout all levels of the company, negotiating prices and deliveries with vendors of equipment and services, providing information for cost justifications and applying equipment designs for production systems.
    • Submits regular project status report updates to Engineering, Manufacturing and all other involved departments.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related area.
    • Detailed knowledge of the pulp and paper-making process and associated equipment required.
    • Previous involvement in continuous improvement processes or the desire to learn Lean techniques is required.
    • Working knowledge of converting equipment such as sheeters and slitters a plus.
    • 10 or more years’ experience as an engineer, and knowledge of maintenance best practices. Paper mill experience is required.
    • Proven experience managing projects involving multiple disciplines, preferable in a paper-making environment.
    • Ability to create designs and layouts from initial concepts and/or existing designs utilizing Auto-Cad. Machine Design skills required.
    • Proven ability to prepare and manage budgets.
    • Ability to estimate projects, generate timelines and meet these requirements consistently.
    • Ability to generate and evaluate technical specifications and training specifications.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to successfully interact and collaborate with personnel at all levels within the Company and with suppliers.
    • Must be an excellent communicator, both written and verbal.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills in leading projects and project teams.

     

    The person selected for this position will need to demonstrate suitability for employment in a position of Public Trust consistent with our US Government contract requirements.
