    Leadership is Currency at Crane 

     

    As Director of the Crane Museum with Crane Currency in Dalton, MA, you will play a lead role with an exciting, fast-growing organization known for innovative currency and banknote technology. You can be an agent of change in an agile company quick to adapt to gain the competitive edge. Although we are small and entrepreneurial, we have the support and infrastructure of an established company, as well as leadership in the industry.

     

    The Director of the Crane Museum will lead the organization to new levels of excellence in all areas that are integral to realizing the full potential for Crane Museum including marketing, development, building valuable and imaginative partnerships with key collaborators, superior visitor experience, and museum best practices.  The Director, reporting to the Vice President of U.S. Government Products, shapes the vision, which celebrates the living and ever-changing canvas of the Crane Museum upon which, American culture, art, and history, creatively combine. S/he, as the intellectual leader, assures Crane Museum’s commitment to education and the imparting of historical knowledge appropriate to the mission and of benefit to our expanding and diversifying audiences. The Director carries the ultimate responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the institution; manages a budget of approximately $75,000; assures that the staff is positioned to fulfill Crane’s mission; guarantees that professional standards are set and met; and is responsible for adding to the resources of the museum as well as managing those resources for the public good.  The role is full-time, part-time will be considered for the right candidate.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree with training in history, historic preservation, American Studies, or Museum Studies preferred.
    • 3+ years of relevant experience preferred, including business planning, budgeting, staffing, and programming.
    • Experience in the non-profit sector in a leadership role, preferably at a museum.
    • Experience with leadership and management of professional staff and volunteers.
    • Ability to engage with the public and inspire diverse groups of people.
    • Demonstrated high levels of initiative and ability to drive positive change.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience in marketing and communication, including website development and social media outreach.
